Wine Writer

Anthony Rose was wine correspondent of The Independent from 1986 to 2016. He has taught wine at the Leiths School of Food & Wine and served as a judge in wine competitions across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, California, Japan, China, and France, and, closer to home, the Decanter World Wine Awards. He is the author of Sake and the Wines of Japan (Infinite Ideas, 2018), Fizz! Champagne and Sparkling Wines of the World (Infinite Ideas, 2022) and The Story of Dassai, the Art of Sake (First Press Editions, 2025) and he contributes to The World of Fine Wine, The Drinks Business, The Oxford Companion to Wine, The Real Review online and Decanter, among other publications.
